How to Choose the Right Flooring for Your Home

Choosing the Right Flooring: A Room-by-Room Guide

New flooring can completely transform the look and feel of your home, but with so many options out there, it’s hard to know what’s right for your space. At Woodsman Kitchens & Floors, we help homeowners make smart flooring choices every day. Here’s how to approach it:

1. Consider Your Lifestyle

Do you have pets? Kids? A pool in the backyard? The way you live should play a big role in your flooring decision. High-traffic homes often benefit from durable, water-resistant options like luxury vinyl plank (LVP), while more formal spaces might be perfect for hardwood or engineered wood.

2. Think About the Room

  • Kitchen: Go for durability and easy clean-up. LVP and tile are top picks here.

  • Living Room: Comfort meets style, engineered wood or hardwood works beautifully.

  • Bathroom: Moisture resistance is key here. While tile is still the go-to for many bathrooms, we no longer sell tile directly, but we can help you explore water-resistant alternatives like luxury vinyl that offer a similar look with easier installation and maintenance.

  • Bedrooms: Comfort matters most. Hardwood, LVP, or even cork can be great choices.

Note: While we no longer offer tile for retail purchase, we’re happy to help you choose complementary flooring solutions that pair beautifully with tile if you’re sourcing it elsewhere or using it in a mixed-material design.

3. Understand the Maintenance

If you want something low-maintenance, LVP and tile are excellent options. Hardwood is beautiful but requires more upkeep (and isn’t ideal for high-moisture areas).

4. Match Your Style

Flooring sets the tone for your entire home. Whether you’re drawn to rustic wide-plank wood or sleek, modern tile, make sure it complements your cabinetry, wall color, and overall aesthetic.

5. Budget Smartly

Every flooring type comes with a range of price points. We can help you weigh the cost of materials, installation, and long-term maintenance so you can make the best investment for your home.
