Modern Contrast Kitchen & Laundry Remodel

There is something about a kitchen that gets the balance right.

Not too stark. Not too heavy. Not trying too hard.

This project, designed by Ann-Marie Kallio, is a great example of how thoughtful material choices and clean layout decisions can create a space that feels natural from the moment you walk in.

A Balanced Cabinet Palette

One of the standout features in this remodel is the use of contrast in the cabinetry.

The perimeter cabinets are done in Diamond’s Loren door style in painted maple Marcona. It is a soft, clean tone that keeps the space feeling bright and open.

To ground the design, the island and additional cabinetry bring in Maple Morel, a warm stain that adds depth without overwhelming the space.

This combination works because it is intentional. The lighter cabinetry reflects natural light and keeps the room feeling open, while the darker wood tones anchor the design and give it a sense of structure.

Full overlay construction keeps everything streamlined, with minimal gaps and a more modern profile.

Hardware That Ties It Together

The Satin Bronze hardware plays an important supporting role.

It adds warmth that connects both cabinet finishes without competing for attention. Against the Marcona paint, it brings a subtle contrast. Against the Morel stain, it blends seamlessly while still catching light.

It is a small detail, but it reinforces the overall cohesion of the space.

Quartz That Works as a Focal Point

The countertops and full-height backsplash are done in Viatera Taj Duna quartz.

Running the material up the wall instead of stopping at a standard backsplash height creates a cleaner, more continuous look. It also eliminates visual breaks, which helps the kitchen feel more expansive.

Beyond aesthetics, this is a practical choice. Full-height quartz is easy to maintain and removes grout lines from the main work areas.

The soft movement in Taj Duna adds just enough texture to keep the space from feeling flat, while still staying neutral enough to work with both cabinet finishes.

A Layout Designed for Real Use

This kitchen is not just about finishes. It is built to function.

The island serves as a central hub, offering prep space, seating, and integrated cooking. It creates a natural gathering point without interrupting the flow between the kitchen and adjacent living areas.

Appliance placement is clean and intuitive, keeping everything within reach while maintaining a streamlined look.

The open layout allows the kitchen to connect easily with the dining and living spaces, which is especially important in homes where the kitchen is used throughout the day, not just at mealtime.

Details That Elevate Everyday Use

There are a few details in this space that stand out once you spend time in it.

The full-height backsplash keeps the walls clean and easy to maintain.
The integrated sink area feels uncluttered and efficient.
The consistent cabinet lines create a calm visual rhythm across the room.

Even the lighting and finishes work together to keep the space feeling bright without being harsh.

These are the kinds of decisions that make a kitchen feel better over time, not just on day one.

A Laundry Room That Matches the Kitchen

The laundry room continues the same design language, which helps the home feel cohesive.

Using the same Maple Morel cabinetry brings warmth into a space that is often overlooked. Instead of feeling purely utilitarian, the laundry room feels like an extension of the home.

Upper cabinetry adds storage, while the layout keeps everything accessible and easy to use.

It is a reminder that functional spaces can still be thoughtfully designed.

Designed for How You Live

What makes this project successful is not just the materials or the layout. It is how everything works together.

The contrast in cabinetry adds interest without overpowering the space.
The quartz surfaces simplify maintenance while elevating the look.
The layout supports everyday use without feeling crowded.

It is a kitchen and laundry room designed for real life.
